Important Insurance Update

…a message from Dr. Daniel Beer

State Farm, along with other companies in the area, give their employees the opportunity to set aside pre-taxed dollars to use for medical services. This money is usually deducted over the course of the year, from each paycheck, depending on the amount that was set aside.  This money can only  be used for medical services, not covered by their insurance plans, including co-pays and deductibles. The amount must be determined by late Oct. for State Farm, and the withdrawals from the employee’s check with begin in 2012.

MER & HSA Plans

(Medical Employee Reimbursement) (Health Saving Account)

The good thing about these plans, the money is pre-taxed. Let’s say you make $20,000 a year. Come tax time, you are taxed on $20,000.  If you have set aside $2,500 into a MER (medical employee reimbursement) or HSA (health saving account) then you will only be taxed on $17,500 for the year. There is a limit as to how much can be set aside each year and proof must be shown that a service was rendered by a receipt or copy of what insurance did not pay for. The trick with these plans are; Use it or lose it!

2012 is just around the corner, and so is the time we all start thinking of our future goals and plans for the coming year, along with our Pre-taxed dollars to be set aside in our MER and HSA plans.

Do you still have dental work or treatments to do and just didn’t get around it this year.  Maybe it’s time for a change in your smile, and doing what you WANT to do?  You still have time to meet with us and access your needs and get those estimates sent to insurance, so we can better plan what your financial benefits are, and what your financial responsibilities may be.

Perhaps you want to straighten those teeth?  Possibly it’s time to re-do the front teeth with new veneers, since you have been living with a crown that has turned color and graying at the edges, and probably had that crown since you were 15 years old.  Maybe it’s just that old broken down tooth that you are just waiting and hoping doesn’t flare up at an inopportune time?

Remember, if you don’t get any dental work done that is not covered by insurance, you may lose that money!  Whatever your dental needs or hopes are, it’s time to plan for a new year.  Let us help you in planning for 2012 and using your insurance benefits the best way you can… and not lose out on your benefits that you may still have this year.

If you’d like to schedule an appointment to discuss your particular situation and what options are available to you, just give Kim or Jennifer a call at 309-454-7344 to see if we can help you better plan for the New Year.
